SAWISE Hope Scholarship for South African Women in Science and Technology 2012

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SAWISE) and The Hope Network invites female students entering their Honours level/ 4th year of study to apply for the SAWISE Hope scholarship.

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering in South Africa. The Hope Scholarship is for Honours/4th year level young women, preferably in the sciences and/or related field (medical included). Preference will be given to a candidate experiencing financial difficulty or distress.

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) offers the Angus SA WISE Scholarship 2012 for South African Women.

The Association of South African Women in Science and Engineering (SA WISE) is a dynamic association for all those who support the idea of strengthening the role of women in science and engineering in South Africa. Each year SA WISE awards the Angus Scholarship to a Sub-Saharan black woman graduate with 70% or above grade average in her subject of study. The scholarship is awarded for 1 year of tertiary study at Honours level (or 4th year level of study) in any field of science and engineering. South African applicants will be given preference. The successful applicant should become an active member of SAWISE.

The Scholarship is valued at R350 000 per annum for a maximum of two years. Excellence is the only criteria for selection.

Switzerland is offering ten university bursaries to South African students to study for Masters and postdoctoral degrees for the 2011/2012 academic year. Preference will be given to doctoral and post doctoral application but does not exclude masters applications. These bursaries are granted for studies and research at Swiss Universities and Federal Institutes of Technology.

The Mandela Magdalene College Scholarship for Postgraduate South Africa Students at University of Cambridge UK 2012

The Mandela Magdalene College Scholarships were announced in March 1995 when Nelson Mandela, then President of The Republic of South Africa, agreed to lend his name to the initiative.
The scheme results from collaboration between Mr. Chris von Christierson and other benefactors, the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Magdalene College, Cambridge. Up to three scholarships are offered each year. The scheme is administered on behalf of the University of Cambridge and Magdalene College by the Board of Graduate Studies (for admission to the University) and the Cambridge Trusts (for funding).

Oppenheimer Fund scholarships for South African Students at University of Oxford 2012

Harry Frederick Oppenheimer was a noted South African businessman, philanthropist, and opponent of apartheid. In 1993 he endowed the Oppenheimer Fund at Oxford University. The Fund promotes links between the University of Oxford and South African Universities. It does this by supporting academic exchanges between Oxford and South Africa, and assisting students ordinarily resident in South Africa wishing to pursue graduate study at Oxford.

 The University of Cape Town issue call for proposals for Creative Arts Fellowships, to be taken under the auspices of the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA).GIPCA is an innovative institution at University of Cape Town promoting new interdisciplinary creative research in the disciplines of Music, Dance, Fine Art, Drama, Creative Writing, Film and New Media, and in particular collaborations among disciplines. Interdisciplinarity is a key theme of the institute, defined here as consisting of two or more disciplines, with at least one being a participating GIPCA department at UCT. Projects should be created specifically for development in our institute.

Social Sciences in Africa: Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship 2011/2012

The Social Science Research Council, funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York, offers fellowships to support the advancement of social science faculty toward completion of doctoral degrees and to promote next generation social science research in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. The program seeks to promote diversity and encourages women (as well as men) to apply. The fellowships support dissertations and research on peace, security, and development topics. Lady Judge Distance Learning Scholarship 2011 for South African Women - UK

The Lady Judge Distance learning scholarship is available for one South African woman towards the costs of studying Masters (MSc) degree on one of the Centre for Development, Environment and Policy (CeDEP) distance learning programmes at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Any Master degree course offered by the CeDEP distance learning programme is eligible for the scholarship. Candidates will be assessed on academic merit by an Advisory Panel. The assessment of applications will be based on the information in your application. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references and other relevant information.

African Humanities Fellowship Program 2011/2012- Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania & Uganda

The African Humanities Fellowship for 2011/2012 announcement will be posted on the website (www.acls.org) in early July 2011. However the specifics below are modeled from the 2010-11 competition for information purposes only.
The African Humanities Program (AHP) seeks to revitalize the humanities in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda through fellowship competitions and meetings associated with them. The AHP is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Fellowship awards to promising African scholars are the centerpiece of the African Humanities Program. Approximately 40 such fellowships will be awarded annually. An initiative to publish the best manuscripts produced under the terms of AHP fellowships is now being established. All fellows will be encouraged to submit their completed manuscripts to the African Humanities Series, which will be a cooperative venture between AHP and a major African university press.
